MSOE's Maio qualifies for
NCAA Championships
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- MSOE senior Dominic Maio placed 14th overall at
the NCAA Midwest Regional, and was one of seven runners to receive
an individual qualification to the NCAA Division III Men's Cross
Country Championships.
Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes
from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were
selected to participate in each championship.
Five teams qualified from the Midwest Regional to attend nationals.
North Central College, who won the event, scoring 51 points and
UW-La Crosse (64), received automatic berths. Third place UW-Stevens
Point (82), UW-Oshkosh (134) and Augustana College (182) received
at-large bids.
Maio finished the 8K course with a time of 25:12.3, making him the
first MSOE men's cross country runner to qualify for nationals.
MSOE's Tim Carlson (57th place, 26:10.5-time), Zach Lutz (99,
26:58.5), Jay Stasiak (142, 27:44.9), Cameron Rate (148, 27:48.5),
Ben Bichler (150, 27:51.0) and Joe Kolavo (181, 28:33.5) followed
Maio in the standings. The school placed 16th out of 39 teams
participating.
Maio now sets his sights for the NCAA National Championships, to be
held at Hanover College on November 22, at the L.S. Ayres Complex in
Hanover, Indiana. The men's race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time
followed by the women's race at noon Eastern time.
