Northern Athletics Conference women's soccer awards announced
WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Northern Athletics Conference has released the All-Northern Athletics Conference awards for the 2008 women's soccer season.

In addition to the four major awards (below), the awards include 14-member First and Second Teams, Honorable Mention selections, and a 14-member All-Freshman Team (formerly All-Rookie Team). All awards were voted on by the NAC women's soccer head coaches.

Edgewood College's Ilana Bar-Av (Madison, Wis.) was named NAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The junior goalkeeper led the conference in goals against average (0.80) in over 1920 minutes at goal. Bar-Av, who was also a First Team All-NAC selection, led the NAC in shutouts with 10.

Edgewood's Elaine Gerry (Prairie du Sac, Wis.) was named both Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. The freshman forward led the conference in points per game (3.57), goals per game (1.67) and game-winning goals with eight. Her points per game average currently ranks third in the nation, while her goals per game average ranks second in all of NCAA Division III. Gerry was also a First Team All-NAC and All-Freshman selection.

Edgewood head coach Tim Alexander was named Coach of the Year, as voted on by his peers. Alexander's Eagles finished second in the NAC regular season with a 10-1-1 record, before winning the NAC Tournament and claiming the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The Eagles (16-3-2) will face UW-Stevens Point in the opening round of the national tournament.
