Edgewood College women’s soccer travels to Stevens Point for NCAA Tournament opener
MADISON
, Wis. -- Edgewood College will enter their first NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament since 2001 against a familiar foe. The Eagles will travel north to Stevens Point for a first round match with UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers will be hosting a four-team regional, with the other first round game featuring 11th-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) and Loras College (Iowa).

First round matches will be on Saturday, November 15, with the winners meeting in a second round match the following day. Edgewood College and UW-Stevens Point will play the first game of the day at 11:00 a.m. while the Tommies and Duhawks meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday's second round game will be at 1:00 p.m. All games will be at the Pointer Soccer Bowl on the UW-Stevens Point campus.

Edgewood College (16-3-2) played at UW-Stevens Point (17-3) way back on September 10, falling 7-0, their most lopsided loss of the season. Since that game, the Eagles have allowed just eight goals total over a span of 17 matches. Eagle goalkeeper Ilana Bar-av has surrendered just one goal in her last nine starts, registering seven shutouts in that span.

The Pointers have won all seven previous meetings over the Eagles, including once in the NCAA Tournament. UW-Stevens Point won a 7-0 decision at home in the first round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament. However, Edgewood College did play UW-Stevens Point closely just a year ago, falling 1-0 at Breese Stevens Field in 2007.
