Edgewood College’s Scheele
named preseason All-American Last season, Scheele finished fifth in the country in scoring, averaging 21.8 points per game and led the Eagles to a 17-11 record and a runner-up finish in the NAC Tournament. D3Hoops.com named her a fourth team All-American at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season. She was also one of ten finalists for the Jostens Trophy, honoring the NCAA Division III women’s basketball player of the year. In the 2008-09 campaign, Scheele will be chasing Edgewood College’s all-time career scoring record. She currently has 1,544 points, second to only Deb Boomsma’s 1,854 points set from 1987-91. Scheele is the only NAC player to receive preseason All-American status from D3Hoops.com, but is one of four players from Wisconsin schools to be recognized. Top-ranked UW-Whitewater, who the Eagles play on November 24, had two players earn honors with Tiffany Morton joining Scheele on the second team and Kelsey Hendrickson being named to the fourth team. Julia Hirssig of UW-Stout earned third team honors. Edgewood College opens their season on November 15 at the Adrian College Tipoff Tournament in Adrian, Michigan. The Eagles will face the College of Notre Dame (Ohio) in the opening round and will meet either the host Bulldogs or Heidelberg College the following day. The Eagles’ home opener is on November 29 against NAC rival Concordia University Wisconsin. Courtesy of Edgewood College, Sports Information Department, November 7, 2008. |
