Athletics Conference announces weekly awards
WAUKESHA,
Wis. -- The Northern Athletics Conference has announced the
conference's Student-Athlete of the Week awards for the first week
of the 2008-09 academic year. The awards include
events taking place from Friday, Aug. 29 to Sunday, Aug. 31.
Men's Cross
Country
Zach Shiels,
Wisconsin Lutheran College
...6-0...Senior...Johnson Creek, Wis. (Lakeside Lutheran)...
Shiels placed second overall out of 100 runners that finished the
race at the Tom Barry Invitational hosted by St. Norbert College on
Saturday in Green Bay, Wis. He was the top collegiate finisher at
the event, crossing the finish line of the 4 mile course in a
personal best time of 21:07. He finished runner-up to St. Norbert
College alum Jeff Pentek.

Sarah Olson,
Alverno College
...5-7...Sophomore...Oconomowoc, Wis. (Oconomowoc)...
Olson led the Inferno with a
third place finish at this past Saturday's Tom Barry Invite hosted
by St. Norbert College in Green Bay, Wis. The sophomore broke the
school record she set herself last season for the 5K distance,
recording a time of 19:57.

Bliske shot a 187
at the Illinois College Invitational last weekend to finish in 40th
place. The freshman led the team with a second round score of 92 on
their way to a 12th place finish.

Corricelli had two goals in
AU's season opening overtime victory, 3-2, over the College of

Women's Soccer
Lindsay Rogers,
Lakeland College
...5-7...Freshman...Forward...Sheboygan, Wis. (South)...
The rookie forward scored
four goals in first two games of collegiate action. Rogers scored a
pair of goals in a 5-0 win at Northland Baptist last Friday, and
also scored a pair in a 5-2 win over Philadelphia Biblical
University on Saturday.

Women's Tennis
Kelsey Steinhorst,
Edgewood College

Steinhorst opened the 2008
season with a 1-2 No. 1 singles record and a 2-1 No. 2 doubles
record. Her singles win came against UW-Oshkosh in straight sets and
her two doubles matches were tough wins against UW-Stevens Point and
Wartburg College. She helped the team move to 1-2 on the season.

Kammeier was named to the
2008 Star Classic All-Tournament Team leading the Stars to a 1-3
record to open the 2008 campaign. The sophomore outside hitter led
the Stars to their first win over Benedictine University, picked to
finish second in the NAC preseason coaches' poll, since the 2004
season. In that match, Kammeier logged a team-high 18 kills with no
hitting errors, posting a .667 hitting percentage. Kammeier also
tallied 12 digs as the Stars picked up the win in 4 sets (25-22,
26-28, 25-19, 25-16).
