Falcon trio leaves mark on CUW record books
MEQUON, Wis. -- Records are meant to be broken, but this many in one basketball season is something to be remembered. Seniors David Lipanot, Josh Atkinson and Travis Moulton had statistical seasons to remember as they entered into four different categories in the record books, points, rebounds, steals and assists.

Senior David Lipanot, a 6-3 forward and a native of Clintonville, WI, entered the season not knowing that he would have a February to remember. Coming into the season, Lipanot needed 230 points, 132 rebounds and 29 steals to move into three separate statistical categories in the Concordia WI record books. Lipanot first entered the record books against Edgewood College on February 7, in Madison, WI, with a steal in the second half, giving him 114 career steals and a tie for ninth place all-time. He then stole eight more passes in the remainder of the season to finish in tenth place all-time with 122 steals.

Lipanot then busted into the record books once more against Aurora University on February 16, at home on Senior Day. With 18:56 remaining in the second half, David scored a layup on a pass from fellow senior Travis Moulton, giving him 1,130 career points and a tie for ninth place all-time. Lipanot would then go on to score 17 more second half points against Aurora and he would add 14 points against Wisconsin Lutheran College in his final game of his collegiate career, a week later. He finished with 1,154 points and seventh place all-time.

Finally, David would break into the record books one final time against Wisconsin Lutheran with a defensive rebound in the first half for 449 career rebounds and a tie for tenth place. He added six more rebounds in the contest and finishes in tenth place all-time with 455.

Fellow senior Josh Atkinson, a 6-6 center and a resident of Milwaukee, WI, worked his way into the Concordia WI record books twice. Entering the season Atkinson needed 84 rebounds to place him among the best rebounders in Concordia WI history and 183 points for 11th place all-time in scoring history. With 9:27 remaining in the second half against Aurora on Senior Day, Josh corralled an offensive rebound off his own miss to give him 449 career rebounds. Josh would later add a defensive rebound and four rebounds against Wisconsin Lutheran College during his last collegiate game to give him 456 career rebounds and the owner of ninth place in Concordia WI rebounds. Atkinson would also score 1,098 career points, good for 11th place all-time in Concordia WI scoring.

The smallest but the most intimidating of the three seniors, Travis Moulton a 5-9 guard from Watertown, WI, would sneak his way into the Concordia WI record books on two different occasions. Moulton would first enter into the Concordia WI record books against Rockford College on February 9. In the first half, Travis would record his third steal with 7:52 remaining, which would put him in a tie for ninth place all-time with 114 career steals. He would also add two more steals against Rockford and eight more steals in the next four games to finish with 124 career steals and a ninth place spot in the Concordia WI record books.

In just 68 career games, Travis Moulton accumulated 238 career assists and averaged 3.5 dimes per game. After only assisting on 16 shots his freshman season it was not likely that Travis would even see the record books by the time he finished his career. After taking his sophomore season off and having two years of eligibility remaining, it was unlikely that he could accumulate 220 assists in two basketball seasons. During his junior year, he would mount up 106 assists and give himself a slim possibility of making it into the record books. Then his senior season came, and Travis poured it on. He led the Falcons with 116 assists and he led the Northern Athletics Conference in assists during conference games with 93, averaging 5.17 per contest during those games. In Moulton's last collegiate game, he recorded six assists, enough to place him tenth all-time in Concordia WI assists with 238.

"For me to be apart of this trio and to have the opportunity to coach these men was a pleasure and I'm glad to see that their names will forever be in the Concordia WI record books," stated head coach Shawn Cassidy. "Having three players in one season enter the record books is unheard of, and to have three players have multiple records is unexpected," he also stated.
